The National Speech & Debate Association has selected the Richmond region as the host of its 2026 National Speech & Debate Tournament—an event expected to attract 10,000 student contestants and visitors to the area. To be held June 14-19, 2026, this competition is one of the largest academic events in the country.
The Richmond Forum Speech & Debate Initiative envisions a region where every student gains the confidence to speak, the skill to think critically, and the courage to lead. By launching and supporting teams across Richmond, we’re empowering a diverse new generation of thoughtful, engaged citizens, ready to impact their schools, communities, and futures.
June 14th through 19th.
The tournament will involve 7,000 competitors and take place in some 750 classrooms across six schools in the region. Local volunteers are needed to ensure the National Tournament runs smoothly.

The Office of Immigrant and Refugee Engagement (OIRE) strengthens connections between Richmond’s immigrant communities and City services. We provide information, resources, and advocacy to ensure equitable access and meaningful engagement for all residents. The Fan District Association is a civic association serving residents of the historic Fan neighborhood in Richmond, VA. Volunteer opportunities are available to help with parks, events, community programs and more. The FDA also supports Richmond-area organizations and initiatives through its grants and outreach opportunities.
For more than 25 years, Housing Families First has been helping families in the Greater Richmond region overcome homelessness and build a path to permanent housing. Through emergency shelter, housing services, youth programs, and community support, we work alongside families to help them achieve stability, self-sufficiency, and lasting success.
There are many ways to get involved with our mission. Individuals, businesses, schools, faith communities, and civic groups can make an impact by volunteering, donating household essentials, organizing collection drives, sponsoring events, providing financial support, or helping us spread awareness about family homelessness in our community.

RVA Light is a leveling ground where we meet people “where they’re at” by offering a welcoming environment with access to much-needed resources like phones and computers. We also host a variety of groups and classes designed to empower our neighbors to meet their own personal goals and to find stability and hope in their lives.
